EOS Repertoire Orchestra
China's Orchestra Academy at the Central Conservatory of Music

The EOS Repertoire Orchestra (the successor of the EOS Orchestra)/ Orchestra Academy at the Central Conservatory of Music was established in 2006. Its members have primarily been instructors and graduate students from the Orchestra Academy, musicians from professional orchestras in China and overseas and selected graduate students from the Orchestral Instruments Department of the Central Conservatory of Music. Since its establishment seven years ago, its has achieved outstanding results with a highly positive social impact.

The EOS Repertoire Orchestra holds its own Music Season, having held ten full Music Seasons in Beijing Concert Hall and 4-6 Weekend Concerts annually in Beijing's National Centre of the Performing Arts, where it a highly respected artistic organization.

The EOS Repertoire Orchestra has performed all of Mahler's symphonies within the past few years to great acclaim. It has performed nearly 70 works during its regular Music Season, including film soundtracks, Peking Opera excerpts, rock music, classical symphonies, multimedia concerts, Christmas concert, and compositions by Wei Yue, who is a composer from the post-80s generation. It has recently performed such complex works as the Bartok Concerto, the Tan Dun Orchestra Concerto and Mathis der Maler.

The U-Music university student program of the EOS Repertoire Orchestra has provided over 10,000 concert tickets to university students, and has been recognized by such mainstream media as CCTV News and Xinhua News Agency. The U-Music project has performed road shows and over forty lectures about music in such universities as Peking University, Tsinghua University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Baptist University. The orchestra also held a music festival at Shanghai Old Dock, which was a 10-day public benefit performance, providing training to local student orchestras.

The EOS Repertoire Orchestra, adhering to the educational concept of "illuminate life with music", was designated as an "national level orchestra teaching demonstration center" by the Ministry of Education. As a highly respected "demonstration center", it has developed a variety of core courses: orchestral performance lessons, orchestral literature and lessons concerning complex works, and trial examinations. Numerous compositions have been meticulously taught in order to develop performance skills, simultaneously recording and publishing a Mahler symphony CD, viola performance teaching materials, and chamber music performance has been taught in-depth.

The EOS Repertoire Orchestra has nurtured numerous talented performers utilizing its unique teaching approach, with its graduates having a 100% employment rate. The EOS Repertoire Orchestra has had such international exchange activities as performing Mahler’s Second Symphony and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in cooperation with Yale University, holding a Master Class with the celebrated violinist and educator Midori, having a Master Class with San Francisco Symphony Orchestra Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas, and participating in the Menuhin International Violin Competition.

The EOS Repertoire Orchestra aims to attract more students, including established professionals, in order to be both a practical and an academic institution, thereby developing Chinese symphonic performance, and becoming an artistically profound institution, capable of having a wide positive influence in China and throughout Asia..
